The building was totally destroyed 20 years after it was established in a disastrous flood in August 1910 that hit entire Kanto area.
The owner bought Sensin-rou Tamano-yu hotel in December 1910, only 3 months later, which was at the foot of the Chitose-bridge that spans the Hayakawa stream, 200 meters downstream from Yumoto town.
And he named it Fukuzumiro to restart his business.

About the hotel building

This is an evaluation of the building by Mr. Kiyoshi Yasui, who understood the building of the hotel and cooperated in the maintenance.

Sukiya architecture of Kyoto Fukon, the best bamboo architecture
In the Meiji-Taisho-Showa period, there were big burials of Emperor Meiji, the coronation of Emperor Taisho (Taisho 4), the coronation ceremony of Emperor Showa, and big events. Businessmen competed to build villas around Zenji and Saga. These architectures gave the name of "Kyofukon" at home and abroad. This Fukuzumiro building uses the technique of Sukiya architecture to create a comfortable guest room. This architecture was learned from "Sumiya" in Kyoto and Hogon-in in Saga, and the materials and craftsmen were brought together. Many rare soot bamboos, precious square bamboos of Tamba group bamboo, black bamboos, broken bamboos, matakes, etc. are painstakingly combined with the poles of the case ceiling. In addition, it is a rare building in Japan that uses only famous bamboo such as wrinkled bamboo and cloud crest bamboo. Using bamboo in Sukiya architecture is a lot of work, and there are promises to choose the material, so it is practically the best price. The beautiful combination of bamboo, which looks "gentle", is terrifying. The model is also on the front gate of Katsura Imperial Villa. The various bamboo architectures used in this Fukuzumiro are unique to Japan, which were finished by the craftsmen of the time regardless of money, and they are a condensation of aesthetics, creating a relaxing space with a sense of security. is. In addition, this building uses the very expensive Kamidai cedar at that time, and uses the natural squeezed logs, small logs, and true logs of Kitayama cedar selected from Kyoto, which is the essence of Kyosukiya. The location of the washroom and toilet in the building is far away, but this is a valuable cultural heritage left behind at the time of its construction. This hand washroom and toilet are made by the Sukiya method, and the materials are various and the ceiling is high. In the dirt floor, the stump of "Enju" is likened to a stepping stone, and it feels good to the touch and has a hateful consideration. The garden is also made using Nebukawa stones from the Kanto region, expressing the fun of the waterfalls and stones that are unique to the Kanto region. In addition, you can see the splendid craftsmanship of the early Taisho era along with the design of the bat that represents the five fortunes of the corridor handrail. Fukuzumiro will remain in posterity as the best sukiya architecture of "the beauty of bamboo".
Kiyoshi Yasui
Born in 1918, representative of Easy Kiyoshi Office Co., Ltd.
He is a leading figure in traditional architecture, and is involved in the relocation of the national tea room "Nyoan", the repair of Katsura Imperial Villa in Showa, the construction of the Japanese gallery in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the construction of Kyomachiya in Boston.
He died in 2011.
